Depending on the formula your provider selects, a solution may also contain topical finasteride, tretinoin, fluocinolone acetonide, biotin or vitamin E. There is also a copper peptide scalp serum (GHK-Cu 3%) on its own. These ingredients are often discussed in relation to hair preservation and scalp health. Safety and side effects
The notes below are drawn from FDA-approved labeling for finasteride, minoxidil, tretinoin, fluocinolone acetonide and latanoprost. Compounded medicines are not approved or evaluated by the FDA, so this describes the active ingredients rather than this specific compounded product. Tretinoin, fluocinolone acetonide and latanoprost are not FDA-approved for hair loss, and GHK-Cu, biotin and vitamin E have no FDA-approved drug labeling for hair loss.
Finasteride, tretinoin and pregnancy. Women who are pregnant or who may become pregnant should not handle these medications. Finasteride can cause abnormalities in the genitals of a male fetus, and tretinoin can harm a developing baby. Store them out of reach and avoid skin contact with anyone who could be pregnant.
Finasteride, reported effects
- Reduced sex drive, difficulty getting or keeping an erection, and a reduced amount of semen
- Breast tenderness or enlargement. Tell your provider about any breast lump, pain, or discharge
- Rash, itching, hives, or swelling of the lips and face
- Some men have reported sexual side effects that continued after stopping. Depressed mood has also been reported
- Finasteride lowers PSA readings. Tell any doctor ordering a PSA test that you take it
Minoxidil, reported effects
- Itching, dryness, flaking, or irritation where it is applied
- Unwanted hair growth if it spreads to skin you did not intend to treat
- Increased shedding during the first weeks of use is commonly reported
- Rarely: dizziness, fast heartbeat, chest pain, swelling of the hands or feet, or sudden unexplained weight gain. Stop and contact a provider. Oral minoxidil carries these risks more than the topical form
Tretinoin, reported effects
- Redness, peeling, dryness, or a burning feeling, most often in the first weeks
- Increased sensitivity to sunlight. Use sun protection on treated skin
- Keep it away from the eyes, mouth, and broken skin
Fluocinolone acetonide, reported effects
- Burning, itching, or irritation where it is applied
- With longer use: thinning of the skin, changes in skin color, or spots of acne or folliculitis
- Do not use for longer than your provider tells you. Tell your provider if the scalp becomes infected
GHK-Cu, biotin and vitamin E
- Mild irritation or an allergic skin reaction is possible with any topical
- Biotin can interfere with some blood tests, including thyroid and heart tests. Tell any doctor ordering blood work that you take it
Before you start, tell your provider if you have
- Liver problems
- Prostate cancer or an abnormal PSA result
- Low blood pressure, or any heart condition
- A scalp condition, an infection, or broken or irritated skin on the scalp
- Known allergies to any of the ingredients listed above

If a provider decides treatment is not right for you, you are refunded in full.
Can I cancel?
Yes. You can cancel at any time from your account or by emailing support@happycaremeds.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current subscription period. There are no cancellation fees.
Will the package say what is inside?
No. It arrives in plain, unbranded packaging with nothing on the outside naming the contents, the treatment, or the condition.
Who writes the prescription?
A provider licensed in your state, working through our telehealth platform. They review your medical history and questionnaire before anything is dispensed, and treatment is not guaranteed.
